Assignment 2

Context:

My “somewhere” for Assignment 2 is a Year 1 class of a small independent primary school in a middle-class area of north-west Brisbane. The class of 24 students consists of 12 boys and 12 girls with two of the boys have been diagnosed with ASD.

Learning objectives:

Students will know that… (Constructing Knowledge objectives/SELECTED content descriptors from the syllabus)

  • Explore different ways of expressing emotions, including verbal, visual, body language and facial expressions (ACELA1787)
  • Explore differences in words that represent people, places and things (nouns, including pronouns), happenings and states (verbs), qualities (adjectives) and details such as when, where and how (adverbs) (ACELA1452)

Students will be able to… (Transforming objectives / SELECTED content descriptors from the syllabus)

  • Create short imaginative and informative texts that show emerging use of appropriate text structure, sentence-level grammar, word choice, spelling, punctuation and appropriate multimodal elements, for example illustrations and diagrams (ACELY1661)
  • Innovate on familiar texts by using similar characters, repetitive patterns or vocabulary (ACELT1832)

Criteria:

  • Understanding and skills dimensions / Receptive modes / Language and textual features, including oral language, and listening
  • Understanding and skills dimensions / Productive modes / Ideas and information in textsStudents will learn how adjectives and adverbs can better describe nouns and verbs. They will then use this knowledge and understandings to create their own text using ICT.
